Brazil has played host to many an ASP tour events over the past 30 years, former contest sites include Rio de Janeiro ( Barra da Tijuca and Saquarema ) but the past few years have seen the tour set up shop at Imbituba, Santa Catarina
Falling toward the end of the tour in past years, several ASPA world champions have been crowned in Brazil, in 2004 it was Andy Irons, Kelly Salater stiched up his 2005 and 2006 ASP world titles there and in 2007 mighty Micke Fanning claimed his first ASP world title in Brazil as well, bringing the coveted cup back to the Aussies for the first time since Occy did it back in 99 but due to a favorable season for swell, Brazil`s waiting period will now be held in the last week of june and the first week of july for 2009 , making it the fourth stop on this year`s ASP dream tour this year .
The Brazilians are rabid surfing fanatics , so bring your grovel game, everyone from capoeira instructors to frothing junior champions prowl the line -ups in search of a few waves and punchy beachbreaks boasted by the region play host to a proud surfing community that is a passionate about surfing as it is its homeland
